High-Pressure Axial Compressor Design

TurbomachineryAerodynamicsPythonMean-Line AnalysisDesign Optimization

An 11-stage axial compressor designed to hit an 18:1 pressure ratio, sized with mean-line aerodynamic methods and a Python optimization sweep.

I designed an 11-stage axial compressor to reach an 18:1 pressure ratio while staying inside De Haller, tip Mach, and reaction limits. I sized the machine with mean-line aerodynamic methods, then wrote a Python script to sweep the design space. It evaluated 12,288 configurations and found one that met every aerodynamic requirement. From there I ran velocity-triangle analysis, free-vortex design, and stage-by-stage performance calculations to set the blade geometry and map out how the compressor would operate.
